(Dana Point, CA)–A little more than two and a half years ago, the Digital Signage Experts Group (DSEG) premiered its Digital Signage Certified Experts course as a broad overview of the digital signage industry — and since then DSEG has certified over 8000 professionals in 62 countries with the Digital Signage Certified Expert (DSCE) program, and over 2000 people with the Digital Signage Display Experts (DSDE) program, according to DSEG board member Jonathan Brawn, a principal at Brawn Consulting.

LobbyPOP® an Early Adopter

Five years ago, in 2006, Sign Biz, Inc. debuted a turnkey digital signage system targeting small- and medium-size businesses under the registered trademark, LobbyPOP®. This system includes hardware and software selections, and an exclusive bank of media developed in-house –“content” – offered through those trained as LobbyPOP Pros within their international chain of sign companies.

Teresa M. Young, President / CEO of Sign Biz, Inc., an organization that provides education services and other resources to the largest non-franchised sign chain, produces a blog, www.LobbyPOP.me for all digital sign professionals who seek to learn about dynamic display sign technology. In her March, 2009 post, she wrote:

You may be a Digital p-Sign Professional – offering every wide-format digital print product your clients need. You could also be a Digital e-Sign Professional – giving customers electronic digital signage as well. While “e” and “p” are only 11 characters apart, there is a world of difference between print and electronic mediums.

Until the LobbyPOP® training program, built especially for the traditional digital sign professional, transitioning from static to dynamic signage was a non-starter. “Being an early adopter of dynamic sign technology, I was sure we had a better, more modern solution for the industry,” says Teresa M. Young, President and CEO of Sign Biz, Inc.

School of Sign Arts DSEG Course

The new DSCE credentials were earned by four members of the Sign Biz executive team in December, 2011. Today it was also announced that the DSCE course would be offered to all sign industry professionals through the School of Sign Arts website platform, established by Sign Biz in 2008 to serve the broader digital sign industry. Young said the aim is to “help more sign business owners access affordable digital signage training” by offering this popular 8-hour certification course on-line at www.schoolofsignarts.com. The DSCE course covers the scale and scope of the industry and examines the disparate parts of complex digital signage solutions culminating in the 7 Key Elements of Digital Signage. At the conclusion of the course, a certification test administered online. Attendees are awarded the DSCE designation upon passing the test.

“Already, 4700 A/V professionals have taken this course. But the sign industry can bring something more to the table – complete branding solutions that observe the science behind effective signage,” adds Young. “By entering the world of digital signage, sign designers and sign company professionals maintain complete control of their client base and signage portfolio,” says Young.

Free Guidebook

At a price of $195 through the SOSA website, the training program offers excellent value to suppliers of digital signage elements, static signage and media. A 45-page guide, Making the Move to Dynamic Signage, is included with the course and only available at that website, a $75 value when sold separately. Sign Biz, Inc. authored this book, a best practices document that covers placement, content, technology, and also addresses the fundamentals of displays and digital signage hardware, and introduces networks and digital signage software along with an exploration of signal alternatives, infrastructure and integration related to effective dynamic signage.

The guide is designed for sign industry professionals, and approved by founder of DSEG.org, Alan Brawn, CTS, DSCE, DSDE, ISF, ISF-C, and includes two customer questionnaires, one supplied by DSEG.

Digital Signage Experts Group

The Digital Signage Experts Group (DSEG), an impartial and agnostic organization working in coordination and cooperation with the manufacturers, distributors, content creators and resellers in the digital signage industry, created the course for DSCE (Digital Signage Certified Expert), a full immersion into the digital signage market for those wanting an impartial and agnostic approach to understanding the complexities of the industry.

The DSCE course covers the scale and scope of the industry and examines the disparate parts of complex digital signage solutions culminating in the 7 Key Elements of Digital Signage. At the conclusion of the course, there is a certification test administered online. Attendees are awarded the DSCE designation upon passing the test. LobbyPOP is the division of Sign Biz Inc. which provides the Guidebook free with the course.

Young adds, “Traditional sign industry professionals have included dynamic signage elements in their proposals for some time, when it comes to outdoor EMC signs. It’s clear that when deciding how they should engage, the sign industry is following our lead, often partnering with technology integrators to bring new value and “one-stop shopping” to their clients and prospects. LobbyPOP Pros offer skilled graphics services, and a full suite of products to fit every client situation. That is what we brought to the table in 2006, and we are simply expanding that to the whole of the sign industry.”
