Sign Industry Stats

PART TWO: FISCAL INDICATORS
To ascertain the fiscal fitness of the industry, the following information relative to the domestic (US) market is presented.

I. The Sign Biz Network has more than triple the percentage of million-dollar operations among its members as that found in the next leading sign franchises. In addition, as of January 30, 2004, 25% of all stores in the Sign Biz Network in operation for at least one full year have annual sales of $500,000 or greater.

II. Signs of the Times magazine, based on a survey of 324 sign shops in their 1999 published survey results that the return on investment (ratio between sales volume and start-up cost) for the various chains is as follows:

Sign Biz and licensees = 4.68:1

Signs Now = 4.47:1 Fastsigns = 4.39:1 Sign A Rama= 2.43:1

Other franchisees= 2.08:1

Naturally, a higher ratio indicates a greater value.

III. Estimated gross sales volume in 1992 as represented through surveys conducted by Ahern & Associates, Cincinnati, OH was classified as follows: Traditional Sign Industry $3,000,000,000 CAS Industry $230,000,000 The CAS industry's gross sales were equal to 7.7% of those of the traditional industry. These figures do not include digital printing nor screenprinting operations, whose combined total revenues is estimated at $4,000,000,000.

IV. The Census of Manufacturers report on Signs and Advertising Specialties, the latest report available for this regularly issued 5-year progress report, states that the industry enjoyed record growth during the prior period, growing over 40% in revenue. A category described as "other signs" including counter, point-of-sale and other display materials manufactured in the establishment, alone totaled $982.9 million, and that compares with a figure of $751.6 million at the end of 1982, or a 31% increase in 5 years.

V. According to Predicast, the market for instant signs in the US has grown at an 8.3% rate annually from 1971 to 1991. More recent information from the Department of Commerce shows growth in the 13% range through the end of the decade.
